CIAA members Rachel Schoenig and Michael Clifton joined Sherri Sampson (University of Maryland Global Campus) and Wesley Smith (Executive Director of the Presidents Forum) for a thoughtful discussion on academic integrity and the growing influence of AI in higher education.
In this conversation, panelists explore how it is essential for institutions to embrace innovative technologies like generative AI while still protecting the core values of academic integrity. They highlight the importance of weaving integrity into every aspect of education and the workplace, ensuring that new tools enhance—not replace—learning.
A key topic is the distinction between generative AI tools and commercial cheating services. While AI can support students when used responsibly, commercial cheating businesses exploit students by offering shortcuts that undermine learning. These companies profit from dishonesty, put students at risk of extortion or exposure, and ultimately endanger public trust—especially in professions like medicine, aviation, and other fields that rely on certified expertise.
CIAA continues to lead the fight against commercial cheating by:
- Partnering with academic organizations, certification and licensure programs, and universities
- Advocating for stronger laws that restrict the advertising and operation of cheating services
- Raising awareness of the risks and protecting the integrity of learning and assessment
Watch the podcast below to hear directly from our panelists and learn how CIAA is actively working to combat commercial cheating, promote integrity, and safeguard the value of education.
